How this calculator works
The Assessment of Blood Consumption assigns one point each for penetrating mechanism, a positive FAST examination, arrival systolic pressure at or below 90 mmHg and arrival heart rate at or above 120/min. All four findings must be supplied; a missing FAST or blood pressure cannot be treated as a negative observation.
When to use this calculator
Use as an adjunct to adult trauma hemorrhage assessment with initial arrival measurements. The derivation concerned transfusion need in a trauma-center population. This page does not replace bleeding recognition, serial reassessment or local major-hemorrhage activation criteria.

Worked example
For blunt trauma with negative FAST, systolic pressure 90 mmHg and heart rate 120/min, the total is 0 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 2. Changing pressure to 90.1 and heart rate to 119.9 gives zero for those two physiological components. A penetrating mechanism and positive FAST add two independently of those values.
Limitations and safety notes
The result does not select product ratios, quantify blood loss or authorize withholding resuscitation. It is not intended for pediatric or nontraumatic hemorrhage. Frequently asked questions
Why is exactly 90 positive here but not in the syncope rule?
Different tools use different inequalities. ABC uses systolic pressure at or below 90; the San Francisco rule uses below 90.
Does a negative FAST rule out bleeding?
No. FAST has anatomical and technical limitations and must be interpreted in context.
Should activation wait for the score?
No. Clinical concern and the local hemorrhage pathway take priority.
