How this calculator works
ANC = WBC in 10^9/L x 1000 x (segmented-neutrophil percentage + band percentage)/100. If a laboratory neutrophil percentage already includes bands, enter bands as zero to avoid double-counting.

Clinical interpretation

Worked example
Fictional teaching case. WBC (10^9/L): 1.2; Segmented neutrophils (%): 15; Bands (%): 3. Result: 216 cells/microliter. Severe neutropenia range. 0.2160 x 10^9/L. Fever or systemic illness with severe neutropenia needs urgent assessment. A high count is not automatically normal.

Laboratory, age and clinical context determine interpretation; no disease is diagnosed from a count alone. Duffy-null-associated counts and pediatric reference intervals require appropriate interpretation, not race-based correction. Infection risk also depends on cause and duration.

Can segmented cells and bands total more than 100%?
No. Such input is internally inconsistent and should be rejected, not converted into a seemingly valid count.
What can change the meaning of this result?
