Interactive Unit Converter Calculator
Interactive Unit Converter Calculator for Reference Tools. More displayed decimals do not add accuracy to the original laboratory measurement. Copying a result includes its units. The numerical conversion is separate from the laboratory reference interval or a clinical decision threshold.
For shared guidance on choosing a tool and documenting results, read the clinical calculator workflow.
How this calculator works
Each conversion uses a named pair of forward and reverse functions with source metadata. The entered side is retained as the source when display precision changes; the opposite side is recalculated rather than repeatedly rounding and converting the previous output.
When to use this calculator
Convert a laboratory result while checking the selected analyte and unit direction. The source value remains the audit anchor. Changing to a different analyte clears the previous values to prevent carrying a measurement into the wrong conversion.
Inputs used
- Selected analyte or quantity
- Numeric result with source units
- Display precision
Clinical interpretation
More displayed decimals do not add accuracy to the original laboratory measurement. Copying a result includes its units. The numerical conversion is separate from the laboratory reference interval or a clinical decision threshold.
Worked example
With serum creatinine selected, enter 1.2345 mg/dL. The catalogue factor gives 109.1298 micromol/L. Two-decimal display gives 109.13; changing back to four decimals should recover 109.1298 from the original entry, not from the rounded number.
Limitations and safety notes
Rounded conventional factors may differ slightly from calculations using a newer molecular mass. The tool does not repair a wrong analyte selection, a missing specimen identity or incompatible assay calibration. No patient identifiers are required.
Frequently asked questions
Why not round after every calculation step?
Intermediate rounding can accumulate error. Retaining the source entry permits a fresh conversion at the chosen final display precision.
