How this calculator works

The tool accepts an already completed MASCC risk-index total from 0 through 26 and compares it with the historical lower-risk threshold of at least 21. It does not reconstruct the subjective burden-of-illness assessment or reproduce a scoring questionnaire. Missing source components must be resolved before a finalized total is entered.

When to use this calculator

Use only for an adult with cancer-associated febrile neutropenia assessed through a clinical pathway. Clinical assessment and treatment must proceed promptly rather than waiting for score completion. The index was developed for this population, not fever in an otherwise healthy person.

Worked example

A completed total of 20 is below the lower-risk score threshold, while 21 meets it. Both are integers; 20.9 is rejected rather than rounded into eligibility. A total of 26 still produces a context-limited interpretation, not an automatic outpatient recommendation.

Can scoring delay treatment?

No. Febrile neutropenia requires timely assessment and management regardless of whether a total has been obtained.
