When to use this calculator

Check a documented observational pain score when the original FLACC version is appropriate. Preserve whether the observation occurred during rest, movement or a procedure before comparing results.

Worked example

A score of 2 at rest and 6 during a procedure are different observations. Their four-point difference is not, by itself, failure of an analgesic. A later zero should not be relabelled as certain absence of pain in every circumstance.

Limitations and safety notes

Original and revised FLACC versions have different contexts. University licensing requirements for instrument use are separate from this limited completed-score workflow; no authorization was obtained by this review. No opioid dose, diagnosis or automatic “no pain” claim is generated.

Does a valid number prove the observation was valid?

No. Range and integer checks catch entry mistakes, not inappropriate instrument selection or administration. Verify the source assessment when the result conflicts with the clinical picture.
