Fracture Index WITHOUT known Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Calculator

Fracture Index WITHOUT known Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Calculator for Endocrinology. Higher totals were associated with greater five-year fracture risk in the original older-women cohorts. This version intentionally contains no BMD term. No current management threshold or individually calibrated probability is inferred.

How this calculator works

This is a finalized-total interpreter for the no-BMD FRACTURE Index. It accepts whole-number totals from 0 to 11. The source worksheet remains external and is not reproduced. The output identifies the exact version and explains the historical association rather than inventing a fracture percentage.

When to use this calculator

Use to contextualize a completed source score in an older-woman assessment or a teaching exercise. Verify the version and the source worksheet before interpreting a recorded number. A prior fragility fracture or current screening indication still needs assessment independently.

Inputs used

  • Finalized FRACTURE Index total without a BMD contribution

Clinical interpretation

Higher totals were associated with greater five-year fracture risk in the original older-women cohorts. This version intentionally contains no BMD term. No current management threshold or individually calibrated probability is inferred.

Worked example

A completed no-BMD total of 7 is accepted as seven historical index points, not a 7% event risk. The maximum of 11 is accepted; 12 and fractional totals are rejected. No missing BMD input is silently assigned a normal value.

Limitations and safety notes

This is not FRAX, a diagnostic BMD classification or a treatment algorithm. Range checking cannot detect an incorrectly completed worksheet. Population transfer and changes in background fracture risk limit historical risk estimates. No copyrighted questionnaire or proprietary risk table is reproduced.

Frequently asked questions

Are the two FRACTURE Index totals interchangeable?

No. They have different maximum totals and different input requirements.

Can a low total cancel a screening indication?

No. Current age, fracture history and clinical indications must be assessed separately.
