How this calculator works

The experimental response ratio is 100 x test-food iAUC / mean glucose-reference iAUC for the same participant. The denominator must be positive. Both inputs must already be correctly calculated incremental areas, excluding areas below fasting baseline.

When to use this calculator

Use to check the ratio step of a supervised, standardized food experiment or a teaching example. Reference and test sessions must match the carbohydrate amount, time interval and measurement convention. The tool does not design or authorize a glucose-challenge protocol.

Worked example

Test-food iAUC 120 and mean glucose-reference iAUC 200 give a participant ratio of 60.000. An iAUC of 220 against the same reference gives 110.000, which is mathematically valid. A zero reference is rejected; zero test area gives zero.

Limitations and safety notes

No GI is predicted from calories, carbohydrate grams, ingredients or a food name. A single personal glucose trace cannot establish a population food GI. The calculator does not estimate meal insulin, diagnose dysglycemia, reproduce a proprietary food table or calculate glycemic load.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as glycemic load?

No. Glycemic load combines an existing GI with available carbohydrate amount; this tool checks a glucose-response ratio.

Can GI-related ratios exceed 100?

Yes. The reference is assigned 100; it is not a mathematical maximum.
