How this calculator works

Multiply the prescribed oral mg/kg per dose by dosing weight, then calculate the equal-dose daily total and stock quantity. The entered single-dose and daily limits are checked without changing the prescription. For children under 12 years the calculation also flags totals above 40 mg/kg/day from the cited oral-suspension label.

When to use this calculator

Check a clinician-selected oral ibuprofen prescription from age six months onward. Age below six months is outside this workflow. Confirm the clinical indication and actual product instead of assuming that fever, pain and inflammatory-disease schedules are interchangeable.

Worked example

Fictional check: a 15-kg child with an ordered 8 mg/kg per dose has a 120-mg dose. Three equal doses total 360 mg/day, or 24 mg/kg/day. A 100 mg/5 mL suspension gives 6 mL per dose. Example entered limits are 150 mg per dose and 500 mg per day; the calculator did not select them.
