How this calculator works
General Atwater factors convert carbohydrate and protein energy at 4 kcal/g and fat energy at 9 kcal/g. The calculator assigns the remaining percentage to fat and rejects carbohydrate plus protein fractions above 100%.
When to use this calculator
Check the arithmetic of an agreed macronutrient budget. Enter energy percentages, not percentages by food weight. Inspect all three gram amounts before translating the budget into meals.

Worked example
For 2000 kcal/day, 50% carbohydrate and 20% protein give 250 g carbohydrate and 100 g protein. The remaining 600 kcal give 66.67 g fat. Their modeled energy totals 2000 kcal before display rounding.
Limitations and safety notes
General factors do not represent every food component: fiber, sugar alcohols and labeling conventions can differ. Energy arithmetic does not establish micronutrient adequacy, diet quality or therapeutic suitability.
Frequently asked questions
Why are preset diet types absent?
A preset can conceal unsupported nutrient prescriptions. The tool calculates a separately selected budget without claiming that a named diet is appropriate.
