How this calculator works
URR = 100 x (1 - post/pre). Appendix 1 of the 2019 Renal Association guideline gives this definition: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s12882-019-1527-3. The pre value must be positive.
When to use this calculator
Audit the arithmetic of paired dialysis samples. Confirm collection timing with the unit's protocol before interpreting a result. Do not mix a BUN value with a urea value or pair different sessions.

Worked example
Pre 60 and post 18 give 100 x (1 - 18/60) = 70%. Pre 20 and post 6 give the same 70%. Reversing the first pair is rejected because the supposed post value exceeds pre; check sample identity rather than accepting a negative reduction.
Limitations and safety notes
URR does not account for urea generation, ultrafiltration clearance or rebound. The cited guideline is a 2019 source for methods, not a claim that all current treatment targets were reviewed. No universal adequate/inadequate band is imposed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use mmol/L rather than mg/dL?
Yes, provided both entries measure the same analyte in identical units. The shared conversion factor cancels in the ratio.
